Acclaimed Biblical scholar and author brings expertise from the Augustine Institute

The Saint Paul Seminary welcomes Dr. Mark Giszczak (pronounced “GEESE-check”), a respected Biblical scholar and experienced educator, as its newest professor of Sacred Scripture.
Giszczak joins the seminary from the Augustine Institute, where he served as professor of Sacred Scripture from 2010-2025. He holds a doctorate in Biblical Studies from the Catholic University of America and two pontifical degrees in Sacred Scripture. He has dedicated his career to teaching, writing and research in the field of Scripture studies, helping Catholics read, pray and understand the Bible.

Giszczak is the author of Light on the Dark Passages of Scripture (Our Sunday Visitor Publishing, 2015), Bible Translation and the Making of the ESV Catholic Edition (Augustine Institute, 2022), Wisdom of Solomon, Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture (Baker Academic, 2024), and Suffering: What Every Catholic Should Know (Augustine Institute and Ignatius Press, 2024). He is also one of the editors of the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture, Old Testament series. His work addresses both scholarly and pastoral audiences, aiming to deepen understanding of Scripture’s relevance to contemporary Catholic life.
With over a decade of teaching experience, Giszczak has focused on helping students approach the Bible with clarity and confidence. His contributions to Catholic Biblical scholarship and his commitment to making Scripture accessible and applicable to ministry are expected to enrich the seminary’s intellectual and spiritual formation programs.
