On behalf of The Saint Paul Seminary, I wish to congratulate Deacon Michael McGinty, who was appointed by Archbishop Bernard Hebda as the next Director of Catholic Education and Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Deacon Michael McGinty was ordained a deacon in 2023 after completing his formation at The Saint Paul Seminary’s Institute for Diaconate Formation. He also completed the Pillars Program with The Saint Paul Seminary’s Catechetical Institute as a member of the Class of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha.
In keeping with our mission to form joyful, Catholic leaders, Deacon McGinty will bring his gentle joy and receptivity of the Holy Spirit, that were cultivated during his time here at the Seminary.
The Archbishop wrote in his announcement, “Deacon McGinty approaches this role not merely as an administrator, but as a ministry in service to the Church.” It is our honor to help prepare such leaders to serve in ministry for the Church.
During his time at The Saint Paul Seminary, he was part of two vibrant programs, learning and growing in the faith both as a deacon candidate and a student in the Catechetical Institute.
Director of the Institute for Diaconate Formation Deacon Eric Cooley remarked, “Deacon McGinty is a gentle but strong leader with a great background in education and administration as well as a profound trust and reliance on God’s providence. He’ll be a steady hand at the helm with his quiet confidence and outstanding leadership that’s easy to respond to.”
Director of the Catechetical Institute Kelly Wahlquist noted, “Deacon McGinty is a man of deep faith, dedicated service, and pastoral wisdom.”
Deacon McGinty shared, “I am grateful for my time in formation at The Saint Paul Seminary. It helped shape me not only as a deacon but also as a leader in Catholic education. The experience deepened my faith, strengthened my commitment to serving others, and gave me the pastoral and leadership skills I will rely on in my role as Director of Catholic Education and Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.”
We are blessed and grateful for this new role where Deacon McGinty can continue to share the gift that he is with our local church. May the Holy Spirit assist him as he begins this vital work.
