The Saint Paul Seminary provides both need and merit-based scholarships, please see below for more information about our offerings.

Merit-Based: Archbishop John Ireland Scholarship
Archbishop John Ireland was the third bishop and the first archbishop of St. Paul and founded the University of St. Thomas and The Saint Paul Seminary. In honor of his commitment to Catholic education and his service to God's people, this scholarship offers 5 students a full-tuition, merit-based scholarship. This opportunity to pursue full-time graduate studies and serve the community is available to all qualified students in all of our degree programs and is renewable for a maximum of two years of full-time study or four years of part-time study.
The deadline to apply is March 5, 2027
Need-Based: The Saint Paul Scholarship
Open to all degree-seeking students, this general scholarship fund provides financial support based on financial need. Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA) is required for this scholarship, and the level of scholarship is based on the FAFSA results.
This scholarship is awarded on a rolling basis; however, for the best opportunity to receive an award, we encourage you to submit your application by March 5, 2027.
Archdiocese of Saint Paul & Minneapolis Employee Scholarship
Available to full or part-time employees of parishes, schools and other ministries of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, this scholarship provides up to 50 percent of tuition costs.
For Veterans: The Yellow Ribbon Program
The Saint Paul Seminary and University of St. Thomas are proud to support veterans and military families. Chapter 33 recipients at the 100% level are eligible.

Tuition Discounts
Tuition discounts are available for both degree and non-degree seeking students affiliated with the following groups:
- Alumni of The Saint Paul Seminary
- Priests, religious, or deacons
- Alumni and staff of Saint Paul's Outreach
- Senior citizens (55 years or older)
- Teaching parish supervisory committee members
- Teaching parish staff (with letter from pastor)
