With the publication of the post-Synodal pastoral letter “You Will be my Witnesses,” we know that the cultivation of small group ministry at each of our parishes will be the first fruit of our Synod implementation. How can small groups bring the fire of the New Evangelization to our parishes while supporting the ministry of their pastors? Why have recent popes increasingly promoted “base” communities, and can they really flourish in the parish context?  These are the questions that will be addressed by Bishop Joseph Williams along with very special guests Fr. Michael White and Thomas Corcoran of Church of the Nativity in Timonium, Maryland.  Both are living witnesses to how small group ministry can transform the Catholic culture of a parish while promoting authentic Christian community among the faithful.

In addition, pastors will soon be receiving notice of the Spring Synod Formation Day for parish staff, which will take place the following day, April 20.  More details are forthcoming.  I ask pastors to encourage all your parish staff who are members of your Synod Evangelization Team to attend that session, which will complement the content of the Clergy Study Day.  These days will be important building blocks for the next steps of synod implementation.
Speakers:
  • Bishop Joseph Williams, Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis
  • Fr. Michael White; pastor, Church of the Nativity, Timonium, Maryland; co-author, Rebuilt Books; co-founder, Rebuilt Parish
  • Tom Corcoran; associate to the pastor, Church of the Nativity,  Timonium, Maryland; co-author, Rebuilt Books; president, Rebuilt Parish
